The Essex Art Association was established in 1946 by a group of nationally recognized avant-garde Connecticut artists who had experienced difficulty finding acceptance in the area's established art associations.
Today, the EAA continues to provide opportunities for young talent, students, amateurs, and professional artists, and a venue for displaying and selling their work. As a non-profit organization, the EAA strives to promote art appreciation and artist's recognition in the communities that we serve.
The Association's first home was a barn off the main square in Essex. Its present quarters, built circa 1837, functioned originally as a meeting house and later as the principal schoolhouse in Essex. The building still retains its historic charm and makes a wonderful setting for exhibiting fine art. Visit us today and see how the arts are flourishing in Connecticut today.
